Samsung Recalling Some Blackjacks - A recent Engadget article about a silent recall of some Samsung Blackjacks manufactured between November 2006 and February 2007 due to an antenna quality issue.
If you purchased your blackjack used (Craigslist, eBay, from a friend) you must get the original owner to file the recall. AT&T will not honor the recall if you are not the original owner of the phone. They will verify the IME Number and your account.
If you can not get a refurb or new unit from AT&T, and have this problem might as well take it apart and see if you can reconnect the anttena to the main board. There is a youtube video on how to take apart the i607

Unless you travel out of the country to Brazil or any of the other known problem countries, I wouldn’t update the blackjack just yet. The only changes are the aformentioned problem, and some icon changes to AT&T
Icon changes, name changes (i.e. Cingular Mall to AT&T mall), and animation changes are what the update is about. Some (many) have experienced significant slowdowns since performing the update.
**The new firmware also enables you to turn on/off viewing SIM contacts in the
GUI. (Note that, like the registry hack, it does not save this option after powering down.

Fix Java Permissions (WM6) - Instructions for editing java permissions files for the built-in Java interpreter so you don’t need IBM J9 after upgrading to WM6. Activates “session” and “blanket” permissions settings.
Some useful applications that work on the Blackjack.
Flexmail is an alternative email client. The user interface is easier to navigate and it has a useful search function. However, I’ve found it is slower than the client that ships with Windows Mobile ( Commercial product with a free trial download )
Skype - Get Skype up and running Now works flawlessly with WM6!!
AlphaDial - Dial vanity phone numbers with your BlackJack

Live Search for Mobile (free) - Search the web, find the latest news, local search, maps and directions, live traffic, movie times mapped, gas prices, and best of all, it’s voice activated!
Google Maps - Also gmail java application, Getting past the Java errors - Update, no longer needed go to “google.com/gmm” for working version of google maps but you still need it for gmail via a java application.
Navizon
Peer-to-Peer Wireless Positioning - Attempts to triangulate position based on cell tower position. Free version is only missing finer granularity via wifi, which isnt available for Blackjack anyway. You can use this positioning in both google maps and live search with some configuration.

Yahoo! Go - Yahoo Go! is now available for the Blackjack
SIRIUS SATELLITE RADIO ON BLACKJACK - you can get sirius satellite radio to stream out of your blackjack! First of all, it helps to have a subscription to Sirius...or you can get a three day trial. Second, make sure you have unlimited Data Capabilities. Third, search for and download a file called SiriusWM5.CAB and copy it to the phone via ActiveSync. You can find that file at
www.geekstoolbox.com you need to register and then it will allow the download. If you download to you PC 1st then copy the cab file over to the blackjack and then run it to install. Another hint is to “subscribe” to the page where you downloaded it. Then when there is an update to the program you get an email with info about it.
BeyondPod - BeyondPod is a free, open source,
RSS feed reader and podcast manager (podcatcher) for Microsoft Smartphone and Pocket PC. Using BeyondPod you can subscribe for
RSS feeds, read the feed content, download and listen to associated podcasts (enclosures) directly on your mobile device. BeyondPod also provides a convenient way to play downloaded podcasts using a built in media player with features like configurable “TiVo style” commercial skip, tracking of played time, easy cleanup of played podcasts and many others.

TT6 - Guide on how to install (your legally purchased! copy of) TomTom 6 on a SmartPhone (TT6 Link is broken. TT6 Installs out of the box on WM6! There are only two problems: 1) Initial setup, when selecting the GPS port. You will need Fakecursor to click on the right port. 2) When entering text, you need to multitap for entry, cannot use the full keyboard. Other than those, it works perfectly)

OpenDNS - Switch
DNS servers to OpenDNS for faster web page loading (12/24/07 - For a few days I’ve notice using OpenDNS servers has been very slow!!! Takes almost 45 seconds to load up a page. Removed the OpenDNS mods and went back to 0.0.0.0 and things now take about 5 seconds to load..) So compare what you have before the edit and after and chose which is better for you...

Remove User SIM Lock - This is when you get the message “phone can only be used with a specific sim enter unlock code or insert an approved sim”.
unlock Blackjack II (i-617) - to unlock Blackjack II, DO NOT remove SIM card from your phone, as for Blackjack I. Not even AT&T knows. I had to call Samsung directly. SIM card MUST be connected to your phone. Then enter: #7465625*638* unlock code (8 digits) and press OK.

Just got a new i607, want to access contacts by just saving the contacts file over the existing on the new one, any ideas?
